Dr. Jorge A. Villa receives Department of Energy grant

Dr. Jorge A. Villa receives Department of Energy grant to study methane emissions from wetlands and its inclusion in current biogeochemical models.

Dr. Villa from our school of Geosciences has been awarded a $215,000 grant from the Department of Energy – Terrestrial Ecosystem Science Program, to study possible improvements to methane predictions from wetland ecosystems by integrating observations of biological components (microorganisms and plants) at multiple scales.

Dr. Villa and his group will be joining a multidisciplinary team that includes colleagues from OSU, CSU, USGS, and the Berkeley Lab.

The project will sponsor for three years a Ph.D. student in our interdisciplinary EESC program and one undergraduate summer research experience at Wetland Ecosystem Science Lab, led by Dr. Villa.
