Louisiana's first Agrivoltaic (agriculture + solar) research project at UL Lafayette has officially earned a spot on the Department of Energy's InSPIRE map! Based at the Louisiana Regional Test Center for Emerging Solar Technology, this year-long study evaluates specialty crop production, soil health, and plant morphology by comparing shaded solar environments to traditional full-sun treatments. This interdisciplinary effort, spanning UL Lafayette's Mechanical Engineering and Psychology Departments, and the LSU AgCenter, bridges the gap between renewable energy and traditional farming. Recognition from the InSPIRE network will help facilitate funding and design for upcoming experiments, including the integration of solar arrays with muscadines and soft fruit production.
